Morocco | Road to the Sahara

A journey through Morocco from the West Coast to the Eastern Desert. Including Taghazout, Marrakesh, Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert

Taghazout

A quiet surf town on the West Coast of Morocco. Days spent surfing, relaxing at the beach, wandering the streets along the coast and watching the red sunsets on top of the hill at the skatepark.

Marrakesh

Marrakesh is the energetic capital of Morocco. Surrounded by beige coloured buildings but detailed with vibrant colours everywhere with traditional pottery, Moroccan rugs and intriguing spices throughout the cities markets.

Atlas Mountains

The journey from Marrakech towards the East took us through the Atlas Mountains which included empty mpuntainous landscapes with small villages far and between such as Ait Ben Haddou, famous for the many films captured here including Gladiator; and the Todra Gorges.

Sahara

We arrived at the desert at sunset. We rode by camel back through the mountainous dunes as the sunset turned the landscape red. We arrived at our campsite and had a traditional tagine and sat by the campfire. The next morning we woke to watch the sunrise over the desert.
